Chat Buttons & WhatsApp ("we", "our", "us") operates the Chat Buttons & WhatsApp Chat Widget application for
Shopify.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you
install and use our app on your Shopify store.
2 Information We Collect
When you install and use our app, we may collect the following information:
- Shop Information: Store name, domain, email, timezone, currency, and plan — provided by
Shopify during the OAuth process.
- Widget Configuration: Channel settings, widget appearance preferences, and customization
options you configure within the app.
- Analytics Data: Anonymous, aggregated visitor interactions with the chat widget (page
views, button clicks) for analytics purposes. We do not track individual visitors.
- Translation Data: Custom translations you provide for your storefront widget labels.
- Contact Form Submissions: If you enable the Contact Form channel, visitor-submitted data
(name, email, phone, message) is sent directly to you via your configured method.
We do not collect personal data from your customers. We do not access, store, or process
customer payment information, browsing history, or personal identifiers.
3 How We Use Your Information
- To provide, operate, and maintain the Chat Widget functionality on your storefront.
- To save and publish your widget configuration to your Shopify store via metafields.
- To display aggregated analytics (visitors, clicks, conversion rates) in your dashboard.
- To enable multilingual translations for your widget labels.
- To improve our app and user experience.
4 Data Storage & Security
All data is securely stored using Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Firebase Functions),
which is hosted on Google Cloud Platform. Firebase provides enterprise-grade security including:
- Data encryption in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest.
- Firestore security rules restricting access to authorized users only.
- Regular security audits and compliance with industry standards.
Widget configuration is also stored in Shopify metafields within your store.
5 Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third parties. Your data is only used to
provide the functionality of this app. We use the following services:
- Shopify API: To authenticate your store, manage metafields, and register webhooks.
- Google Firebase: For secure data storage and backend processing.
6 Shopify API Scopes
Our app requests the following Shopify permissions:
- read_themes: To check if the theme app extension (widget) is enabled on your storefront.
- write_files / read_files: To upload custom icons and images (agent avatars, QR codes)
used in the widget.
7 Data Retention & Deletion
We retain your widget configuration and analytics data for as long as you have the app installed.
When you uninstall the app:
- We receive an
app/uninstalled webhook from Shopify.
- Your session data is removed immediately.
- Widget configuration and analytics data are permanently deleted within 30 days of uninstallation.

8 GDPR & Compliance
We comply with Shopify's mandatory privacy webhooks:
- customers/data_request: We respond to customer data requests. Since we do not store
personal customer data, we confirm no data is held.
- customers/redact: We process customer data redaction requests.
- shop/redact: We process shop data erasure requests upon app uninstallation.
9 Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about your store (viewable in the app dashboard).
- Request correction or deletion of your data.
- Uninstall the app at any time to stop all data collection.
